Owner
My name is Alison. I have lived in Tampa Bay for almost 40 years, since attending USF. As a mom, I was shocked to learn that Hillsborough County is one, if not the, deadliest county in the country for traffic fatalities. And, I-4 is the deadliest stretch of highway in the country. As a driver, that's shocking; as a parent, it’s terrifying. I’m a serial entrepreneur and wanted to do something… the question is: what can be done? Auto Safety Driving School is the answer.
I remember growing up; it was not rural, but we had back roads. Those roads were an excellent place to learn how to drive. There are no ‘back roads’ in Tampa Bay. Development over the last few decades has widened lanes, roads, and highways. And that was before all the distractions…especially cell phones.
Tampa Bay roads are serious business…they’re not very forgiving. Now, more than ever, parents need the peace of mind that comes from knowing their children are learning in an environment where no corners are cut.
All of our instructors are certified, background-checked, and highly trained, on top of being dedicated and just all-around quality people.
Our vehicles are exceptional. Toyota Corollas are highly regarded for safety, offering robust structure, 5-Star Overall Safety Ratings from the NHTSA, eight standard airbags, and a slew of safety features, indicators…all the bells and whistles!
All lessons end with a written evaluation so you can work with your student between lessons on areas marked for improvement.
A Driver’s License is a big deal. Freedom. Independence. But, also…Responsibility. We take this process extremely seriously. And, you should too. We appreciate your trust and will earn it from each student, each lesson, every day.

Senior Instructor
Billy has been a dedicated instructor at Auto Safety Driving School since 2016, helping students build confidence behind the wheel while reinforcing the importance of safe, responsible driving habits. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, he moved to Tampa Bay in 1974 and built a successful career in hospitality and sales. As a husband, father of five, and grandfather of two, Billy values family, faith, and community. Outside of teaching, he enjoys fishing and spending time outdoors. His patience, experience, and commitment make him a trusted part of our Tampa driving school team.
Colleen
Instructor
Colleen brings over 35 years of experience with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, where she trained drivers, conducted road tests, and contributed to curriculum development. With more than 100,000 hours of driving experience, she offers unmatched knowledge and a true passion for driver education. Colleen is committed to helping each student succeed with confidence and safety on the road. Her expertise and dedication make her an invaluable member of Auto Safety Driving School and a trusted instructor for students throughout the Tampa area.
John
Instructor
John comes from a military family originally based in Texas and moved frequently before settling in Tampa when his father was stationed here in 1968. A graduate of Jefferson High School, he is a proud father of three and grandfather of six. John spent 35 years with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, gaining extensive experience in driver safety, testing, and education. A loyal fan of the Buccaneers, Rays, Lightning, and Florida Gators, he brings both personality and professionalism to Auto Safety Driving School, helping Tampa students become safe and confident drivers.
LaTonya
Instructor
LaTonya brings decades of hands-on driving and instruction experience, including extensive work with CDL training, operating big rigs and 18-wheelers, and school buses. A Tampa Bay native raised in St. Petersburg, she is passionate about teaching safe driving habits and preparing students for real-world road conditions. LaTonya enjoys staying active in her community and spending Sundays after church watching the Buccaneers. Her strong background, energy, and commitment to safety make her a valuable part of the Auto Safety Driving School team.
Aaron
Instructor
Aaron comes from a large family with four brothers and two sisters, which shaped his passion for helping others and giving back to the community. With extensive travel experience across the globe, he brings unique real-world perspectives to his driving instruction. Aaron is dedicated to helping students earn their driver's license as a key step toward confidence and independence. When he's not teaching, he enjoys spending time with his family and planning his next adventure. His patience, understanding, and commitment to student success make him a valued member of the Auto Safety Driving School team.
Yavette
Instructor
Yavette is an experienced transportation and driver training professional with nearly 30 years in commercial driving, public transit, and passenger services. Her career began in Chicago, where she gained valuable experience working within large-scale transit operations, including experience connected to the Chicago Transit Authority, before continuing her work in Florida’s transportation and driver education industry. She currently holds a Florida CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement, maintains a clean driving record for over 10 years, and is both DOT-Certified and State-Certified as a Driver Instructor Trainer. Throughout her career, Yavette has worked closely with driver development, safety compliance, customer service, and behind-the-wheel instruction while following FLHSMV and DOT standards. Known for her professionalism, calm demeanor, and ability to connect with people from all backgrounds, Yavette takes pride in helping new drivers build confidence, improve safety awareness, and succeed both on the road and in their careers. Her experience expands in public transportation, mobility services, driver coaching, and passenger-focused operations, making her a trusted and respected leader in the transportation field.

Brendan is known for his professionalism, patience, and positive attitude, making him an excellent choice for students and families looking for a supportive driving instructor. He is committed to teaching defensive driving techniques, road awareness, and responsible decision-making so students can become safe, confident, and independent drivers both during lessons and long after they earn their driver’s license. With years of experience driving in busy and fast-paced environments, Brendan understands the importance of staying calm, alert, and safety-focused behind the wheel. His strong attention to detail and background in defensive driving help him create a safe and encouraging learning experience for new drivers, especially teens who may be nervous or inexperienced.

1. Are your instructors certified and licensed by the state?
Yes. All instructors must pass the Florida Driver Performance Analysis System (DPAS) and complete the Florida Driving Instructor Training Certification (DITC).
2. How many years of experience do your instructors have?
Experience varies by instructor, but all have extensive backgrounds. Some have over 30 years with the DMV, while others have been pilots or held CDLs. Every instructor is deeply passionate about driver education.
3. Do instructors have specialized training in defensive driving or working with nervous drivers?

4. Are background checks conducted on instructors?
Absolutely. Instructors undergo background checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), are fingerprinted for national clearance, and must maintain clean driving records.
