Starting July 1, 2025, a new Florida law is reshaping the path for teens getting their driver’s license. Under the new rule, students must complete a formal classroom course before they can receive a learner’s permit—a step up from the previous requirement of only a traffic law and substance abuse course.

At Auto Safety Driving School, we believe this is a smart move.
“Anything you can do to further enhance driving safety, especially with new students, I think is a plus,” said Billy York, one of our lead instructors.
We’ve always emphasized preparation, not just for the test, but for the realities of the road. Teen drivers today face more traffic, distractions, and speeding drivers than ever before. One of our recent students, Michele Brown, said she was shocked by what she encountered after getting her license.
“There are a lot more fast drivers than I expected,” she said. “I think it’s better to be cautious on the road. So, having more classes, more lessons, studying more—that’s always good.”
We’re currently working closely with the state to understand exactly how this law will shape driver education programs going forward. While the details are still being finalized, Auto Safety Driving School is fully prepared to adjust and continue delivering quality instruction that meets state requirements.
We’re here to help students and families navigate the updated process—and get teens safely and confidently behind the wheel.
